Power couple David and Victoria Beckham recently renewed their wedding vows after 17 years of marriage (and 4 absolutely adorable children), demonstrating in flawless fashion the virtues of sacred union. While such bold commitments aren’t for the fainthearted, we propose 8 other ways to make Valentine’s extra memorable for you and your SO.
Try one, or better yet, all of them – you don’t have to wait till February 14 to show you care.
1. Start your day by catching the sunrise
Singapore’s unlimited shores make it incredibly easy and accessible to enjoy the sunrise. Venture out from the usual locations like East Coast Park – places like Sembawang Park, Lower Seletar Reservoir Park, Lorong Halus, Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage all offer picturesque views for a brilliant start to your day.
2. A different cinematic experience
The Projector revives two cinema halls and the 5th floor foyer of the historic Golden Theatre as an independent cinema and creative platform that brings together a great selection of films. The films are specially curated, with genres like indie, foreign, cult classics, arthouse, and special themed nights.
Head to the new carpark bar The Great Escape to wrap up movie night with drinks, a cozy ambience and (hopefully) the perfect company.
Where: Level 5 Golden Mile Tower, 6001 Beach Rd, Singapore 199589
3. Whimsical cocktails at a secret bar
Don’t be fooled by the innocuous reference library facade. Password-only and via a secret door behind a bookshelf, The Library is a dimly-lit retro bar that makes for an intimate and mysterious speakeasy experience. Best enjoyed with their specialty concoctions like Square Root of Happiness, Shrub-A-Dub-Dub and Grand Theft Nacho.
The password is changed weekly, and can be obtained on their Facebook page or Twitter. Fret not, if you don’t have the password, you may still gain entry by singing a song or telling a joke. Or, you know, go unprepared intentionally and impress your date with vocals and humour.
Where: 47 Keong Saik Rd, Singapore 089151
4. Make art, not war
For the dextrous and not-so, they say pictures paint a thousand words. Granted, we aren’t all Rembrandt’s and Klimt’s, but what better way than to let acrylic and canvas be the visual embodiment of your affection? At Arteastiq, there are a plethora of tools at your disposal, and you can enjoy one free beverage while unleashing your inner artist.
Arteastiq is also offering a 1-for-1 deal on Monday ($48) so there’s no reason not to try your hand at this.
Where: Mandarin Gallery #04-14/15 333 and Plaza Singapura #03-70/72
5. Aroma-ntic gesture
Put your relationship to the test – at Je T’aime, take the Perfume Personality Quiz with your SO and blend different fragrances from an extensive selection to come up with a signature scent! That way, you’ll always linger on each other’s minds.
Where: 90 Good Man Road, Block O, #01-57, Singapore 439053
6. Story of the Forest
As the old adage goes, don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees. In this context, the proverbial trees are perhaps emblematic of trivial differences that most relationships must weather.
Story of the Forest is an installation inspired by the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings at the National Museum of Singapore. It transforms 69 drawings from the collection into animated illustrations, which come to life in a magical, visceral experience of roving animals, digital flora and seasonal weather in an expansive forest. It’s created by Japanese digital art collective teamLab.
Open daily from 10am – 7pm. Free for Singaporeans and PRs!
Where: National Museum of Singapore, 93 Stamford Road, Singapore 178897
8. Treat yoself.
Valentine’s may be the most saccharine day dedicated to couples, but let it not override the importance of self-love and respect. So use this day to give yourself a proper break and indulge in some pampering!
