Listen up, ladies: smart is the new sexy. Oxford shoes are in trend right now, and they’re definitely a wardrobe staple.

You may not know this, but oxfords are not the same as brogues. By definition, Oxford shoes are closed-laced, low-cut shoes with flat heels and thin soles. A distinctive feature of the Oxford shoe is its closed lacing. This means that the eyelets are hidden under the front piece of the shoe. Closed lacing gives a more elegant appearance, making the Oxford the go-to formal shoe.

The modern Oxford shoes are evolved from buckled half-boots worn by the students of the famed Oxford University – thus the name. The style gained mainstream favour at the beginning of the 20th century, with the addition of laces that made them easier to wear and remove.

Now, Oxfords are versatile – the variety of designs mean they can be worn for formal, work or sporting occasions. Scroll further for our recommendations – this season’s iterations are anything but boring.
