If you think wearing bold luxurious teal and slick black lipsticks are trendy, well, here are new updates you should know about. The fashion gurus at fall 2017 fashion week have innovated bolder wearable lips in unnatural and un-intuitive ways. Here we have gathered five ways to switch up your lip look (if you dare to wear it out).
A look popularized a year ago by Pat McGrath’s Labs’ Lust 004 Lip Kit. A pretty kit full of vogue and shimmer was a new bold thing to try. Coming in a range of colors, it appears to be a tedious process but the results were stunning.
Others have caught on to the trend for wearable glitter lips such as Stila’s more hassle-free Glitterati Top Coat and Glitter Lipstick by MAC. An alternative, subtler take on this layering is with a black topcoat, such as Lipstick Queen’s Black Lace Rabbit, which adds depth to your look with a tinge of mysterious shimmer.
Smudged Lip Look
This comes across as anti-intuitive since make-up pros have been trying to achieve the perfectly lined lip with concealers and precisely applied liners. But the professionals at fashion week are experimenting with the deliberately smudged-lippie look. Like the models of Giambatista Valli and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, get the sexy dreamy post-kiss look.
To achieve a toned-down version, simply slide your finger gently along the edges of your lips, from the corners to the middle, to smudge ever so slightly. Or you could use a lipstick/stain/tint to overdraw your lips a little, blot it off with a tissue and fill in your lips except for the outline. And may we suggest you match with a clean dewy face for the lips to stand out and enhance its glowing quality.
Another way to upgrade your boring lip look is with the hologram lip. Shiny and slick, guaranteed to be attention grabbing. A champion of this bold lip look is Sigma Beauty with their Lip Switch gloss that comes in five shades. Our verdict? A great and simple add-on to give dimension to your pout!
Two Toned Lip Look (and we don’t mean ombre)
For NYFW Spring 2017, the Cushnie et Ochs and the MAC Cosmetics team collaborated to bring a new and highly raved trend of two tone lips for the former’s runway show. Consisting of a red upper lip and lower pink one, the final product looks unexpectedly natural-looking and works well for all the models’ skin tones.
For a more outrageous version, how about trying two contrasting colors?
Outlined Lip Look
The last look is inspired by Moschino, and it appears minimal yet stylish in a high fashion way. Notice the model’s lips are lined but not filled in, and is complemented by the distinct crease of eye shadow in the same color. The look works due to the bare quality of it, so you can start by experimenting with nude and pinkish shades as well.
This concludes our quick list of wearable lip ideas inspired by fall and spring runway looks this year, for you to sport a different, more bold lippie than your usual looks. Just thought we should shout out to the following look that is trending as well:
Mermaids, unicorns and pastels are happy cult favorites and here are some looks we adore
To achieve the pastel pink looks try lipsticks such as Too Faced’s Unicorn Tears, which is a fast sell-out product, or for the more conservative, Etude House lip tint in Milky Soda. The bottom, more daring look is a product of blue, metallic or silver applied to the middle for gradient and blending. You can pat eye shadow onto the lips to blend as well.
Go forth and try!
