Linying, Natalie Ong, Take Two and more: Music for a Cause @ SMU (free event)

An extraordinary (and free!) Laneway alternative.

By Rachel Tan

If Laneway Festival’s seminal music choices aren’t your cup of tea, here’s what we propose: catch 10 different local acts at Music for a Cause instead.

Music for a Cause takes place at SMU on both 21 and 22 Jan, so grab a seat and get cosy with homegrown sweetheart Linying, pop-rock outfit The Summer State, and Natalie Ong, who wowed judges with her impressive vocal range on The X Factor Australia. The complete roster for both days includes names like indiesoul singer-songwriter Dru Chen, acoustic duo Jack & Rai, acapella group MICappella, mellifluous and energetic Take Two, Scarlet Avenue, Tabula, and Gareth Fernandez. It promises to be an evening of eclectic flavours that will confirm plus chop leave us overflowing with national pride.

You’re in for a smorgasbord of tunes and styles, and the best part yet? You’ll be supporting 8 social causes, like Canossaville Children and Services, Actions for Singapore Dogs and Food Bank Singapore. Each of these featured social causes will be present over the two days to share their stories, raise funds and call for volunteers to support their programs.

Music from the heart indeed resonates that much louder and clearer.
